"I was very impressed with how Thorley Day Nursery established Alfie into a structured routine and I found it very useful to get feedback at the end of each session on the things that he had done, eaten and his general behaviour. Each day was fully documented in a little yellow book which was permanently kept in his nursery bag. Having had experience of other nurseries in the past that gave daily feedback short shrift, this gave me a great deal of reassurance that he was being cared for by an individual who knew and understood his needs. I felt that his care was planned around him and his needs, rather than the needs of nursery and I have always been impressed with the range of activities they undertake with the children. No two days are the same.
Thorley Day Nursery made observations on Alfie's learning style and observed that he plays in a patterned (schematic) way. Having noted his acute interest in motion toys and cars in particular, the Nursery brought pictures, books and toys into his room specifically for his education and enjoyment. It has been useful for us to learn of the Nursery's observations as Alfie will get very upset if a line of toys that he has built becomes broken. The feedback has helped us understand him and the way that his mind works as he learns to communicate with us more fully.
Alfie moved into the older child room following his second birthday on 1st October and it was great to see that he made this transition without issue as staff in the baby room handed over their knowledge of Alfie to the staff in the new room. Within days he was happy to say good bye to me at the door, hanging up his coat and coming to the window to wave me off without tears. I put this behaviour down to the happy environment created in the nursery by the staff and the fact that the children are dealt with as individuals and not just numbers.
I have always been more than happy with the care and guidance given to our children by Thorley Day Nursery."
