"Since moving to the North West in the summer of 2007, my son has attended Thorley Day Nursery in Timperley. This was a challenging time for ourselves as a family as we were new to the area, but particularly for Cobi as he was moving from a child-minder environment and into nursery for the first time. It quickly became clear that Cobi had adapted well to his new environment but in my opinion, this was mainly due to the approach of the nursery.
Some of the activities have even assisted Cobi's understanding of events in our family life such as our recent family holiday. He described how Nursery staff brought a suitcase into nursery the week before our trip and created a scenario where Cobi was at the airport. In this scenario, he took his suitcase throughout the nursery pretending he was progressing through the airport. The Nursery explained what was happening and re-created what Cobi would have to do. In my opinion I would say that this activity was reflected in Cobi's behaviour when we did actually arrive at Manchester airport. Cobi was extremely calm and well-behaved and even told me that I had to 'give my passport to the man'.
The Nursery have also assisted with Cobi's understanding when we had to move property in August. One evening, when I picked him up he proudly showed me the boxes he had packed that afternoon as he was 'moving house'. That evening Cobi helped us pack items from our living room and took great pleasure in telling us how we should do it, paying particular attention to ornaments as 'they might break'.
I believe that Cobi's development at Thorley Day Nursery over the last 16 months has been superb and despite his closeness with all of his 'teachers', he has developed a close bond with 'Miss Lucy'."
